Hello fellow "Beamers"
I was very glad to find this mailing list on the "NET" as it lets me
comunicate with fellow "Beamers". If the SUNBEAM SPORTS CAR CLUB
OF SOUTH AFRICA's members are anything to go by, then the is a terrific
bunch of other "Beamers" out there.
I first layed my eyes on an Alpine aprox. 13 years ago. It was a MK3 sitting
in a used car lot. My brother instantly fell in love with it and bought it.
He restored it to concours condition, (Almost finnished) making sure
everything was original, right down to the body colour. The rest of the
family was also hooked on Alpines. My dad bought one two years later. It is
also a MK3. It is in reasonable running condition and he is fixing it up
slowly while keeping it on the road. It took me a while but I now have an
Alpine all of my own.(Bought a month ago) It is a MK5 in original condition
but needs a lot of work. It has a bit of rust in the sills which have to be
re-built. The soft top is shabby and the car needs a re-spray. The brakes
are non existant. On the possitive side the car has never had any major
dammage and all the body pannels are perfectly straight. The engine is
perfect with lots of smooth power (compared to the MK3) and is not using oil
at all.
All the trim is still on the car exept for the original steering wheel. I
also managed to aquire a set of "wire" wheels with all the nessesary bits.
Our family has taken in 3 Alpines. Considering there are aprox. 30 Alpines
in South Africa (that the club knows of) its not too bad that the Ferreira's
own 10 percent of the total South Afican Alpine "population". One thing is
for sure, they have found a good home
where they will be loved and looked after.
