I had a similar problem here in Southern Cal, turned out to be a bad 
chassis connection on the ground strap from the fire wall to the engine. 
I also replaced the ground cable from the battery to the chassis. That 
fixed it, BTW, I'm using a Sears Die Hard, it has lots of extra cranking 
power and hasn't let me down yet.
