As a matter of fact I was talking to Smitty about this the other day (the
smog test in general, not changing the smog program). He has an Alpine (sV,
dual strombergs) currently in his shop that can't pass smog, if you adjust
the carbs to pass at idle they fail at cruise, if you adjust to pass at
cruise you fail at idle. He is ordering some new needles of various
dimension to see if he can find the right combo to pass at both idle and
cruise. I'll let you know the outcome. Maybe we can find a magic set and
pass them around.
FYI, did you know that the needle diameter is dimensioned at something like
14 places over its length? I thought they were a constant conical shape,
hmmm you learn something new every day.
