I don't really know but I think the oil hole will line up with the oil
passage when the piston is at the top of its stroke so it squirts into the
cylinder as high up as possible. Check out when the oil passage hole in the
crankshaft matches up with the oil passage in the conrod to make sure this
happens at the top of the stroke.

Ignore this completely if it makes no sense I'm going from memory of the
rebuild I did on my 1592cc engine in 1988. I'll be reading with interest to
find out if there really is a way of working it out.
