I've tried polishing my original threshold plates with a buffer stand
and Eatwood buffing compounds to little effect. I think it might take
some sanding to get favorable results. This would have negative
effects on the texture of the plates and might even eliminate the
pattern in some places depending on how bad the originals are.
I'd have to say that mine are in fair condition with a few small
dents and a finish that looks, for lack of a better description,
sandblasted. What might work for some would be to sand & polish the
areas of smooth finish and settle for a less than polished look in the
textured area.
Just some thoughts.
