The standard carbon throw out bearing is installed dry..
It certainly does not get boiled in oil..
However the often neglected pilot (spigot) bearing is a porous
bronze bearing and if not already saturated in oil "should be
soaked in engine oil for 24 hours before fitting, preferably at
room temperature". (Rootes WSM.145)
The pilot bearing supports the front of the transmission input
shaft in the center of the flywheel, I generally replace it
each time I do a clutch job.
