Tranny removal 101

Just an update on my removal of my transmission. Over the past 2-3 weeks,
I have been slowly removing a few nuts and bolts each morning. This
morning I successfully removed the transmission from underneath the car.
I had one jack under the engine and one under the transmission and was
able to pull the transmission out.

The engine was angled back pretty far. I was told that you did not need
to remove the valve cover. I did anyway and found that if the cover was
still on, I would not have been able to drop the engine far enough to
clear the transmission. I then pulled off the bell housing so I could
slide the transmission out (I only had the rear of the car jacked up high
to reduce the relative angle of the transmission to the ground when I
pulled it out).

It's been slow going, and there really isn't anything left holding the
engine in (except for the loose front motor mounts) - so, I could easily
have pulled the engine out first. But, so far, I'd repeat it this way
again if I had to.

Maybe, in an other 3 weeks I might have the new transmission back in. I
have no idea when it will be running again. So, let it rain for now.
