Hello all,
I'm almost embarassed to write after reading the colorful backgrounds that
so many of you have. But here goes anyway. I'm Howard Altman, 34 years old
computer programmer/tech support engineer. I have worked in the industry for
some 14 years now and have been programming for 17 years. I have always had
an intrest in cars but never spent much on my cars as a youth. I'd have to
say the the best $400.00 car I ever had was my 1969 Buick Skylark..we were
lucky to get the car, my father was with the auxillary police back in the late
70's and his partner was the head mechanic at a local Buick dealership. Lou
called one day and said have the money ready you just bought a car. He took
the car and overhauled it the next weekend at no cost! Sadly I bent the
frame on 2 years later. I can remember in 1981 looking for a Tiger but had
no luck at the time in locating one. I looked at an Alpine and got suspecious
when the owner refused to let me take it for a test drive...he insisted on
driving. That was the best thing he could have done for me because as we
drove I noticed the the passenger side door did not meet the threshold! The
frame on this car must have been shifted at some point. I have owned some
Jeeps including a DJ5B (postal jeep with right hand drive) but never a
British sportscar. My wife was very open to the idea of restoring a car
and so now I'm on the hook to restore something for her when the Alpine is
finished.
Linda (my wife) is like myself 34, she is a stay at home mother to our 3
children Kim (14), David (4), and Steven (2). David is my fishing buddy
and mechanics helper, he loves to take the old parts and rip them apart to
see how they work (just like his old man!)
Though I grew up in New York I currently live in Raleigh North Carolina where
I work for IBM supporting LAN products (so don't ask any PC related questions!)
just kidding! If anyone can think of a good database that we all can take
advantage of let me know I'd love to take part in the project.
Well thats it...forcast is for 60+ degrees this weekend so B9003995 will get
some attention paid to it (need to drop the oil pan and see if I can find out
whats binding in the engine!)

Howard Altman
