Finally, . . . .

On Dec 16, 1996 I became the owner of another Series II Alpine.
     (Applause)

I bought the car from Jeff Bond, a list member in Mission Viejo, and had it
towed on a flatbed to Glendora, where my mechanic Frank Laughlin was
waiting.

When we arrived, I think Frank had a minor heart attack, as he saw my
"diamond in the rough" being lowered. After several oh my gods, he
accepted my little roadster into his shop.

A few days later he called me with a parts list and a list of suggestions.

I ordered new spark plug wires, carb rebuild kits, and a few gaskets from
Sunbeam Specialties, while he spent his time pulling the gas tank, and
purging fuel and brake lines. When the parts arrived, he rebuilt the carbs
and reassembled the parts
to the fuel system.

On Dec 10th, he called to say all was ready to turn the little car over after
about
6 years of hibernation. I needed a battery and about five gallons of gas.

He called 10 min later and for the first time he was as excited as I was. He
had installed a new battery and some gas drained from his restored Nova and
THE LITTLE ALPINE THAT HAD NOT RUN IN YEARS, STARTED THE VERY FIRST TIME .

He said that he could not resist driving it aroung the block. I forgive him

The last weekend of December, my friend patrick and I ( we have bought 4
Alpines
together and never driven 1 ) drove my little beauty around Glendora putting
about 8 miles on her.

As many of you know, this little car turns heads, especially when it tears
downs the street passed them. We were stopped by one gentleman who said that
he had not seen one of these LBC in years and would I considered selling it.
He offered me many times what I paid. I laughed, ground gears, stalled,
restarted, ground gears and flew off down the street.

Sell it ? NEVER NEVER NEVER !

Special thanks to Jay Laifman, Jeff Bond, Sunbeam Specialties, and the entire
group for their input.

It took 13 years but I finally found a 1962 Sunbeam Alpine Series II.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All
