late 2s,3s,4,s and 5s all have 25 spline carriers, which "the carriers" are
all interchangable.
series 5s have a wider bearing perch on the axle, and use a different case
and hub.
1s and early 2s have 17 spline axles, but if the spiders in the carrier are
changed, 25 spline axles can be used without probs.
