Brad,
did you note the thread on Tigers breeding with Alpines recently, maybe
a V8 and a 4 cylinder could produce a v6 off-spring. Sounds like your
car may be pretty rare.
Adding my 2 'pence' worth to your question above, have you tried the
earth lead from the battery or more likely, the earth lead from the
gearbox to the frame.
