I had a similar problem on my series V. And it was a fairly new starter,
but I had the original starter and i just swapped the drive (which was bad
on the old starter). and I was back in business. You say you can't get the
starter off because of the headers. Try taking the starter apart by
removing the end screws and taking it off that way. I did that once on a
series one with headers. Also one time I removed the left front tire and
went in through the wheel well to get at the starter. But anyway you need
