Greetings to the Alpine Gang,
After a long hiatus, I'm back on the net and the mailing list. Lots of
changes this past year including moving to Grants Pass OR. 'Still have the
S II Alpine, and 'am making plans to retreive my S III for restoration
soon. Only 2 more years to SUNI III (it doesn't seem possible). Southern
Oregon is a sportscar paradise in the dryer Summer months, with lots of
scenic and twisty backroads. I still feel a bit isolated, and would like
to make contact with fellow Alpine owners in this area. Give me a shout if
you're out there. Also, I haven't found a good magazine store for British
car magazines, so haven't been able to keep up my bibliography lately.
I've enjoyed reading your latest mail list entries. These cars are as much
of a puzzle as ever, and it's good that we have a place to pool our
knowledge as well as our ignorance. A friend and I who used to work on
Alpines together figure it only takes twice as long to solve a problem when
we're both working on it.
Besides the S III restoration, I'm planning to attend a local "Team
Continental" driving school this spring. I've been interested in vintage
racing for some time, and this looks like the time and place to get my feet
wet.
I'm enjoying Graham Robson's new book on the Alpine and Tiger. Lots of
juicy bits about development of the Alpine. It's good to get this down on
paper while the people who designed and built the cars are still with us.
Take care, and I'll catch you on the net.
