The biggest rebore I've heard of was to 86mm giving 1906cc. This was back in
73/74 by a firm called Martin & Swaine, who I think may still be trading as
Swaymar engineering.
The engine was described as linered, with a 12.5 compression ratio, solid copper
head gasket and Wills rings round the bore. A fair bit more work was done as the
motor was giving 200bhp with a 9400rpm redline! I have a feeling Avenger Tiger
pistons may have been part of the recipe.
Sadly it was actually built for use in a Ford Escort rally car as it was cheaper
than tuning a Ford twincam motor.
