I was one of those who responded with indignation.  I think what struck 
me wrong was the request that others help fund what is really a luxury.  
I think most people feel the same way; there is a reason why panhandlers 
ask for money for dinner, rather than money for a good cigar.
Not only did he want money to get the car running again, he wanted his 
bumpers and hubcaps rechromed.  I'm wondering how I will fund that 
myself.  I still think my response was a reasonable reaction 
to an unreasonable request.
