It sure can be made, a friend of mine put an opto-electronic ignition into
magneto case in his Ariel-JAP-Clifford motorcycle. It took about 10 hours
and much intelligence, but it works (still after 12 years) exellent.

The bike is interesting, with -32 Ariel frame, sidevalve single JAP engine
stroked to 750 cc, Burman box with belt drive and modern outboard
electronics. I made the saddle, and the bike looks out very very much like
any british bike from 30's.

I am sure there are some kind of ready kits for ignition modification, too.
