Hammerite (sp?) is an excellent protective paint for this application. But
don't replace the tar paper. Over time, it tends to trap moisture rather
than repel it. Many a new Sunbeam owner has pulled up old, seemingly intact
tar paper to find thoroughly rusted floorboards.
