Original dashboards are plastic, or bakelite more correctly, not
sheetmetal. At least on my Series V this holds true, I'm not sure
about earlier series. It is correct that there may be a mounting
problem, however. If I remember right, the dash is about 3/8" thick
where the gauges mount (or something close to 3/8", I think). Then
again there may be no problem at all.
