Just a thought that occurs to me reading your message below - if your wood is 3/4" thick you may encounter some problems mounting guages, switches etc. - the threads and bezels (or whatever they are called) or clamps which hold them in place may not be deep enough to handle 3/4" wood unless you counter sink larger holes on the rear face to accommodate. Remember original dashboards are just sheet metal - pretty thin. Don't have a dash at hand to check this out but maybe you should have a look before you fire up the hole-saw?
