Be careful with agreed value policies. Typically -- that is unless you
have a special arrangement in writing -- the insurance company will base
your premium on the agreed value and cap your recovery at that amount.
Should you total the car, however, the company would still require an
appraisal and would reimburse you only the value of the appraisal. So,
if you have a decent Alpine, you may be paying a premium based on $8000,
but really insuring yourself for only $5000 or $6000. By the way, State
Farm has insured my Alpine for years.
