Rich and others,

        It is recommended that you use the clutch when engaging and
disengaging the OD just as changing gears otherwise, as Rich points out,
there will be wear on the cone clutch in the OD unit. I have a Laycock
deNormanville unit (very similar to those fitted to British cars) on my
Volvo Turbo and I always use the clutch.
