Sounds like possibly two tranny problems: a worn shift fork causing the
jumping out of gear, and maybe a bad synchro ring causing the "crunching."
Doesn't sound terminal (unless its making other severe grinding sounds) -
I'd drive it till winter - just don't try to jam it down into second very
often, and keep the oil (30-wt non-detergent) topped off.
