Yipee,
I got to put about 50 miles on my Series V this weekend. It has been
living in the shop for months. I have two problems. (3 if you include
overheating, but I paid attention when everyone else suffered with that
one!)
1) I get the occasional crunch/grind when I shift into 2nd gear and it
jumps out of 2nd gear when I try anything more than moderate acceleration.
What is likely casuing this? Can I drive it this way until the winter
without damaging anything? Is this a do it yourself fix?

2) My starter intermittantly won't spin. I turn the key, the solenoid
clicks and then nothing. I am getting voltage to the starter. I can
easilty turn the square shaft end on the starter and still nothing. I can
push start it, drive it then the starter works fine. Should I just replace
the thing or crack it open and check the brushes?

Thanks,

Chris
