One of my Alpine S V engines (B395006757 LRX) is a Routes Group
"Replacement Engine". It carries a small aluminum plate, about 3.5" x
1.75", mounted on the left side of the block, hidden behind the starter. It
is screwed into the block using two short hex head machine screws. The
plate merely identifies the engine as a "Rootes Group Parts ...(last word
of this group has disappeared) ...Replacement Engine", and the only number
stamped on mine is in the "Assy Pt No" space. In my case the number is
5221234. If you try to clean up the plate, all you do is remove more of the
black printing...presumably a painted stencil of some sort.
