Oops, I missed something really important here!

The normal valve lift for a stock alpine is .390 at the valve.

The valves actuate at a slight angle relative to the head surface,
but this angle is negligable.

Most combustion chambers are taller than that (.390), but still it is
not
important, because the intake and exhaust valve reach full lift well
before and well after full TDC.

In order to worry about valve to piston clearance, the valves would
have to
open to beyond .400 inch at TDC. That would be one heck of a
camshaft.

The alpine head is one of the few high compression heads where it is
just
not possible to have piston to valve smackups.

Even flat top pistons and hot high lift cams wont cuase problems
here.
