I have seen even 15 inch rims on alpines/tigers.
The problem here will be that if the tire diameter is too large, or if
the
tire width and wheel offset is too great, the tire will rub on the front
valance
or the fenders respectively.
Tires up to 205 mm wide with 23.6 inch diameter tires have been used
with various rim sizes, provided that the wheel offset was reasonable.
I seem to remember that when I bought my minilite replicas, I ordered
them with 4.25 inch wheel offset, which gave me plenty of clearance of
the fenders with 205 tires.
Matter of fact, I could get away with 3.8 inch spacers front and rear if
I
wanted to widen up the track.
Pay closest attention to the offset of the rim in relation to the
overall tire
width. This will keep the tire from rubbing on the fenders during
bumps.
Since you dont seem to concerned with originality "2.8 motor", you can
always cut away the offensive portion of the front valance, if your
tires
are too tall.
