I have a '66 Series V. I'm in the final stages of my restoration.
(1) In addition to having installed a stereo system, my one compromise away
from completely stock toward daily driving pleasure is that I'd like to fit
the car with a nice after market steering wheel (saving the OEM wheel for
show). Momo and LeCarra make some nice 14" diameter models with similar
chrome spoking consistent with the original Alpine design and a MUCH more
robust horn. But these manufacturers no longer stock the steering wheel
hub kit for the Alpine. Does anyone out there happen to have stockpiled
these? Or know of a currently available hub kit from any source that will
work with these steering wheels? I have an adjustable steering column and
as near as I can figure, the steering shaft is 48-splines and 3/4" diameter
(2) This is my third Alpine V, and all of them somehow collect oil in the
spark plug wells. It doesn't seem to be leaking down from the valve cover
gasket (I use the cork ones there, not the paper). It seems improbable
that it would be leaking UP from a bad tappet cover gasket, or that oil
would be coming through from the cylinder. Has anyone had a similar
experience and a potential solution?
(3) Does anyone recommend a good outfit for rechroming (and undinging) hubcaps?
Thanks,
Dan Levitin
