Jarrid's fuel pump ideas bear investigating.

Also, is it possible you got some bad (watery) gas from the bottom of the gas
station's tank when you filled up? You might want to make sure you empty
your tank before filling up again, or add a bottle of gas 'dryer.'

I've had paint flaking problems off and on for years, but a number of the
flakes have always made it through the line to the bowl before any real
blockage occured. Have you pulled off the glass top and probed around for
fresh, larger flakes hiding in the recesses?
The stock filter isn't the best. You may have had stuff (small paint chips
or other crap) get thru and lodge against the needle valve(s), intermittantly
blocking the flow, in which case its off with the Strombergs for a looksee.

What kind of 'additive' did you use? Some octane boosters make the fuel
lines and hoses brittle. If you're using a rubber hose between the pump and
carbs, pieces might be coming loose inside.
