I spent the last two days at the Monterey Historic races. There were three
Sunbeams racing and 12+ Tigers parked in the common Shelby area. The Tigers
also got to drive the track in the Shelby parade. It was a great sight. Two
tigers were in the races with one finishing third behind two corvettes. (there
were other corvettes back in the pack that the Tiger beat)The other Tiger was
moving up when it spun out and dropped down to 12 or 13 th place I think. In
the paddock area where the Tigers were located there were two historic LeMans
Tigers on display - that was the first time I had seen something like that.
They looked something like the Harrington Alpines with the swept back hard top.

The third Sunbeam racing (in a different race from the tigers) was a 1955
Sunbeam Alpine Talbot - I guess this is the "proper alpine"? It looked great -
nicely restored! I guess it had to maintain a certain decorum to live up to
it's "proper" designation. While all the other cars went by with engines
roaring, the Proper Alpine just hummed on by. Of course it also didn't seem to
be in a hurry to get anywhere. But it was the first one of those I had seen. I
know there are a couple Proper Alpine owners on the list that would have been
proud to see one running the course at Laguna Seca.

No Series Alpines were there this year though, it was great to see all the
other historic cars with some of the historic drivers - Parnelli Jones and
Stirling Moss.
