Is your solenoid functional? You might tap THAT with a hammer, lightly, as
these can get crudded up as well.
I've long been an adherent of the 'tap-it-with-a-hammer' school of
Automotive Maintenance, and it has served me well. Just don't belt the SOB
with all your might, in rage and frustration. A gentle tapping with a
small hammer WILL, however, dislodge dirt and dust which might be gumming
up the works.
