Here's a real puzzle for an automotive novice like me. Hopefully,
someone on the list can explain it. Since I've had the Alpine (about 4
years), I've always had a minor cold starting problem. If the car sits
for any more than a day (especially if its cold), I need to crank it
several times before it will turn over. Before that, it cranks, but
before it kicks over it sounds like the starter losses its grip and
spins free. After a few tries and pumps of the pedal, it starts. Hot
or warm starts are usually fine. Now the Marcos is just the opposite.
Unlike the Alpine, the Marcos has Webers and no choke. Cold starts are
no problem. Pump the pedal twice, turn the key, and it explodes. Hot
starts, however, are like the Alpine cold. Crank, chug, chug, then the
starter spins free. I let it sit for awhile, floor it, turn the key,
and it usually starts. Again, unlike the Alpine, the Marcos seems
to be getting worse. Which problem is more serious!?!?!?
