In response to Goyden(at)micron.nets request:
I am restoring a 54 Sunbeam Alpine. I purchased a rebuilt overdrive
transmission from Sunbeam Spares, 214 Wolverton Rd, Blakelands, Milton
Keynes, Bucks, MK145AB ENGLAND. Phone 011-44-1908 610395 from US. This
is the spares supplier for STAR--the Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register.
Colin Mumbray runs the spares supply and has been an excellent supplier
of parts for my restoration. To purchase from Colin you need to join
STAR. Colin knows everything about Sunbeams of this period.
Contact Peter Woodall in the US to join STAR. Peter lives in Washington
(360 576-4969).
Since I am in the process of upgrading to an overdrive transmission while
restoring my Alpine, the transmission which was in my car has been
removed. Since I bought the car non-running, I do not have any
information about the current condition of my spare transmission--but it
is available. When I bought the car it came with an extra chassis and
powertrain--so I have some additional parts available as well. I believe
the same transmission was used in all Sunbeams of this period--but Colin
or Peter could answer this question authoritatively. STAR also has
reproductions of the original parts and service manuals which list the
parts numbers and could confirm the interchangeability of parts. I would
check mine, but I am away from home until the weekend.
Hope this helps - Jim
