I want to add my support to Rick at Sunbeam Specialties. I work not far from his
shop and frequently go over there for parts and advice. In every case he has
handled my needs with more than you could expect. In one instance I was having
trouble with a window winding mechanism and he suggested it could be fixed by
putting a blow torch to it and hammering. Well, he left work, took me over to
his house where he had a torch. Heated up the part and hammered it.
No charge! I've heard of other stories like the time he loaned an engine at the
last second to Steve Alcala in monterey races when he had blown his engine in
warm ups, so he could compete the next day. If there is a problem, Rick will
make it right! He is knowlegeable and always willing to help in any way
possible.
When I first got my alpine I was totally amazed that he could have a going
business supporting a car that no longer exists and where only 70,000+ were
made world wide. I'm still amazed. His prices almost never increase. He must be
doing something right! I think we are also fortunate to have more than one
source. I thought it would be extremely expensive to find parts for an "antique
car", but most parts are less than equivalent parts from new car dealers. Even
the bad supplier helps one appreciate the quality service from the others.
On a side-note:
When he took me to his house to torch my part, I walked back through his yard
eyeing around six alpines sitting in the yard, than he opened up an enormous
warehouse garage behind his house. I walked in and my jaw dropped, I thought I
was in Sunbeam heaven there were at least 30-40 various sunbeams and parts
cars in there. I now know how my son felt when he first walked into the
baseball hall of fame. He was in a trance. I could have spent a vaction in his
warehouse just looking over everything. He is a good source of used parts also.
