Wonderfull discertation, metalurgical degree or not!
Couple of points though.
1) 1995 and up 4.6 ford "yep, 32 valves" use both nodular iron cranks
and rods. This from hot rod mag. I saw some of the rods the other
night.
Scary looking pieces. The caps were simply fractured from the rod,
thus
eliminating the facing operation. There was a dreadfull finish on
the cap
to rod surface, but it had a ton of surface area, and as long as you
put
the correct cap on the correct rod, all is cool.
2) Both small block fords and chevy made/make cast cranks, in addition
to the forged cranks depending upon application.
3) No one seems to be able to expplain the paper thin parting line on
the
alpine 5 main crank.
Anyone care to take a shot at this one?>
