Dick (and Clan),
I have several overdrives about, and a 4.55 Rootes differential. It is
of
my opinion, that if a Laycock overdrive could be made to survive the
150 or so BHP (135 lb ft), running with and OD and those really low
gears, would result in awesome acceleration, with a reasonable top
speed.
Since my motor is a 7500+ motor, top speed would still be in the mid
120 MPH range, which is overkill, because there just arent any courses
around here, that will allow that high of a top speed.
Have you ever ran with an overdrive, and if so, what did you to to make
it survive.
One thing I know is that the tail shaft of the OD will not take a clutch
dump in first or second gear even from a stock motor.
