I too am the owner of a Alpine fastback engine in a series V. It is a 1725
and has a finned aluminum oil pan. It works fine.
Chris Stephenson, his dad Mickey, and I drove to Hueytown Alabama
(Birmingham) and purchased a series 5 parts car as well as the "skin"
(doors, fenders, hood, trunk) and hardware from a series 3. They guy had 2
engines and trannies that he wanted $250 for. We didn't take them because
we had no need. They had 1961 and 1962 casting dates on the block. The
old guy a the house (sellers father) seemed anxious to get the stuff out of
his shed.

>Series II motor - 1592 engine
The Alpine fastback "Rapier in drag" used the same engine with
a newer type head. The rootes literature for the time said that the
Alpine "GT" made 95 BHP, which is 2.5 BHP more than the SV 1725.
The main differences will be the inlet and exhaust manifolds and
the mounting.
Other than the fact that the motor is at an angle, I dont think there
is any reason why you would not want to keep the newer type motor.
