I looked again specifically at the vertical pivot mounting plate in the
seat back at the lower corners. The cardboard is overlapping this
plate (outside) to a diagonal cut just above the pivot point. It also
follows the curve of the side of the seat-back around this plate to the
front surface of the seat-back. (I'm still not sure if I completely
understand what you mean by "all the way out" - does this help?)

I'm in Calgary, Alberta (where we already seem to be getting El Nino
weather!)
