This may be a bit unconventional for you, but I use a medium size
regular screwdriver and stick it down into the pump piston. The
slightly tapered edge of screwdriver fits well and actually will wedge
into the hole. I then (with gas or carb cleaner as lubricant) work the
piston up and down with a spiral motion. Much the same way you would
hone a cylinder. I do this until I get a full free range of motion.
I.e. I can push the piston all the way down and the return spring has
no problem pushing the piston back out. Hope this helps.

While testing the action of the accelerator pumps on my Zenith WIAs, I
pushed the pump lever too far and stuck the piston in the front carb in the
down (compressed) position. I tried tapping the carb body outside the pump
to see if it would free, and then took off the top cover and gently tapped
the piston itself but no luck. Anybody have a good idea how to free this?
