The smell of warm old British iron

Is it just me, or does a warm British car smell distinctively
different? There is a peculiar odor I have come to associate with my
Alpine after a nice little run, a rather sweet smell (probably richly
laden with volatilizing engine oil). Passing through the grocery store
parking lot I smelled this familiar odor and looking around found an old
Jaguar V12 sitting there stinking away . . .
