I too had that exact same problem with my Series V windshield. It was
explained to me that the reason was that the new windshields that are
available are slightly thinner than the originals. Therefore, it rests
differently. True enough, if I tried to put it all back together with my
original windshield, it still fit. I never did take a calipers to the two
windshields to see the difference. But, if I recall correctly, the
difference could be seen with the naked eye. My original winshield was
unacceptable because of those dang wiper scratches and the slight
discoloration in one lower corner. I ended up having to file a little bit
off of each end of the side pieces to get it all to fit. It looks fine.
However, I know deep inside that it is not as perfect of a fit as it was.
