Steve,

Its not too common to snuff a caliper.

Far more likely, you will need a new set of pistons and a rebuild kit,
which costs way less than a complete caliper.

The calipers may even pit internally with no loss in function as it
is the stationary sealing ring in the caliper that makes the seal
against the piston, and not vice versa.
Very worn bores can be sleaved, but this is also a very rare
opperation.

Just dont split the caliper halves unless you really have to!
