tranny to block mixing and matching

        Why would the flywheel make any difference as to the bellhousing
bolting to the block and the tranny bolting to the bellhousing. I ask
this question, because I am pretty sure that when I put my car together 5
years ago, in my naiive bliss I used a Series V block and flywheel, and
bolted the Series I tranny and bellhousing up to it using a Series I
clutch. Apparently, this combination shouldn't work???
