According to his catalogue, from his Suppliers link on the Tigers page (that's
what people seem to call it) at
http://cablepop.sc.intel.com/tiger/vendors/martel/martel.htm
Front Valance (Top Only) is US$130 plus 5% packaging.
[BUT, the images are only 2-bit, so Netscape downloads them but can't
display them. Download each and save it as a file. Use MS-Paint to view.]
We traded a couple faxes about floor pans for my Tomato, and then he
called me just before Xmas and we had a good chat. Although he has a
"real" job now, and not doing full-time Alpine/Tiger fabricating
anymore, he'll still make what he did before. He got tired of making a
living doing (expensive) custom work for a market that simply couldn't
afford it. Face it: if you or I could afford an E-Type we wouldn't be
quibbling about a $100 price difference for a hand-made piece matched
against a template car.
I haven't bought a single thing from him yet, but I like his approach
because it matches (as does his experience) mine in the consulting
world. He does very good work, but at a price, and for an Alpine that
may never be worth more than $15,000 that price may be too much. He
likes the work, but not enough to discount his prices to that of what
the rubber-die overseas fabricators do for VB and others.
The fellow doing my bodywork has 20 years BritCar experience. He said:
"Pay him well for panels that fit well or me a lot more for making them
fit."
