Ah, but I'd get a new oil pump, oil pressure relief,
timing chain, tensioner & gears, piston rings(?), core plugs,
maybe some useable gaskets, perfect tappet bores
and cam bearings, and maybe useable thrust washers,

Add what that lot might cost to get separately
to the cost of rebore / sleeve and degrease / paint etc.
and the n.o.s. engine could look a bit more cost effective.

(plus a lot of used UK blocks suffer from bad corrosion
due to lack of antifreeze, and sometimes crack & weep coolant
near the alternator mountings....
Also, if you wanted to rebuild a Holbay spec engine,
I think only the standard size pistons are available new.)

Anyway, enough of this idle nonsense ;-)

I'll dig out any info i've got on the Avenger Tiger, but since I last
wrote, I see the 'Practical Classics' price guide says:-

Avenger Tiger (1972-73) 1498cc
2250 uk pounds in top condition
1250 pounds average, 350 poor condition
( 3450 / 1900 / 540 us dollars )

? 1498cc is *smaller* than the
1598 of the common Avenger.
