>Has this been done to an alpine?
I used to have some old tiger tales that talked of turbocharging
an alpine, and using a corvair turbo and rochester carbs.
The owner used a stock engine, which would have had too much
compression with any level of boost. Dont know how long it lasted,
but I have my own theories as to how long it should have.
Anything is doable with ample money and patience.
Suck through turbo/blower systems offer simple and reasonable
performance if you dont go too hog wild on the boost.
Boost figures of 5PSI would be about the practical limit
with standard rootes components, and LC pistons.
This would require some combustion chamber mods
to increase the volume to acceptable levels.
One main disadvantage with the Alpine engines would be lack
of seals on the crank, and difficulty in creating a functional PCV
system. The added blowby will make a mess in the areas that
currently leak oil.
