How badly is your transmission output shaft twisted? The OD
transmission that I have also has a slight twist, but I had it checked out
and it is not bent and everyone thinks that it is still functional. I had
the transmission rebuilt for $100 plus new synchros and bearings from
Sunbeam Specialties. The overdrive was destroyed, so I got a D type unit
from a Volvo for $35 that bolts up directly to the Sunbeam tranny. I then
have to changed the driveshaft to an MBG unit as the tail of the Volvo OD
has a flange. I have not yet installed all this into my car. Something
to do with lack of time, and my car is running too well right now to
disturb the delicate balance of British nature.
My point is that if your transmission is salvagable, you can get a
functional overdrive out of it. It just won't be all Sunbeam.
