Land Speed Record

Speaking of the LSR, I was in Southport, England last week. I went down
to the beach in the morning to see where Sir Henry Segrave set the WLSR
in the original Sunbeam Tiger.

The beach was totally deserted and the only sound the wind blowing in
off the sea. You could almost imagine Segrave's ghost endlessly blasting
back and forth along the beach. As a dedicated Sunbeam nut I found it a
very moving sight.

I then went to Lake Windermere to see where Segrave died. He crashed his
boat, Miss England, there attempting the water speed record. What an
incredibly beautiful place. If you're going to go in a blaze of glory,
that's not a bad place to do it.
