I was contemplating similar things for my alpine, but what many people think is that the lower a-arm, and shock tower arent up to the task of absorbing the spring pressure that the shock would place on it.

The conventional spring puts the same load across a much larger area on the lower a-arm, and the upper spring perch abosrbs the spring force in a totally different way than the upper shock mount will.

In short, I think you will have to do some serious welding and reenforcement to pull it off.
