I have always been unimpressed with the throttle rod linkage in general. The vibration of the engine come straigt to your feet, and at the links resonant point, it even seems to move itself.
When I went from Strombergs to EFI and ultimately to DCOE Webers, I made my own cable based throttle system.

You will have to work out the details of attaching the the end of the cable to the carb. This is usually pretty simple using junkyard bits. If you need help or hints doing this, drop me a line.
