Hi,

I just wanted to point out something for anyone contemplating installing a Ford V6 in their Alpines. The 2.8L engine that many people have been using fits very nicely thanks to its exhaust port setup, which places the rear exhaust port in front (barely) of the steering box. The 4.0L, which is otherwise very similar in size, uses different heads entirely and the rear port exits into the steering box. The 2.9L (Merkur Scorpio, Ford Ranger) is exactly like the 4.0L in this respect, not like the 2.8L. Only the 2.8L really fits well.

Of course, one might think about moving the engine forward a little, but the cross member is in the way unless raising the entire engine, which is unacceptable. The only option, so far, is to switch to rack & pinion, which most would be reluctant to do for various reasons.

So, measure before you buy, it's a real tight fit in there for any normal motor!
